Oltre 400 persone arrivate da ogni parte dell¹¹America del Nord hanno partecipato nei giorni 3 e 4 luglio alla 69esima edizione dell¹¹Interstate Picnic, organizzato con maestria dall'Associazione Pratola Peligna di Ottawa al Vincent Massey Park. Il divertimento non è certo mancato: giochi, canti, un ricco buffet innaffiato con un buon bicchiere di vino casareccio e la gioia di ritrovarsi han fatto del picnic un momento da vivere in allegria, tra paesani che puntualmente ogni anno colgono questa occasione per fare una bella chiacchierata insieme. Quest'anno il Picnic Interstatale Pratolano si è svolto al Vincent Massey Park di Ottawa, la nostra capitale federale. 

 Nel primo pomeriggio del 3 Luglio, con il mio minivan, insieme ad alcuni amici mi sono diretto verso Ottawa dove io, per la prima volta sono arrivato l'Ottobre 1965. Il tempo era stupendo, arrivati puntuali alla Chiesa Madonna della Resurrezione, il parroco Padre Antonio Pannunzi ci ha accolti tutti con grande calore e tanta stupefazione nel vedere noi tutti Pratolani salutarci l'uno con l'altro con tanti abbracci, tante gesticolazioni, tanti colloqui a voce alta insomma il davanti della chiesa non era differente dalla piazza davanti la Chiesa Madonna della Libera della nostra Pratola Peligna. Dopo una bella Messa ed una predica casareccia fatta da un buon padre ad una famiglia tornata insieme dopo un certo periodo di lontananza siamo tutti andati alla sala per ristorarci e finire i discorsi cominciati davanti la chiesa. Alla sala, precisamente al St. Anthony Soccer Club, c'è stato un pò di sgomento dal grande numero dei partecipanti che inavvertitamente non avevano fatto sapere quante persone arrivavano al picnic pero la maestria dei cuochi ha saputo soddisfare tutti i partecipanti al picnic con una abbondante cena.

 L'indomani giorno 4 Luglio, tutti al parco. Si temeva la pioggia, invece, tutto era bello sotto quegli alberi stupendi del parco. La partecipazione è stata molto di più del previsto ed il picnic oltre ad essere onorato dalla presenza di tanti Pratolani da Ottawa, Toronto, London, Brantford, Hamilton, Hartford e Montreal c'era anche il nostro Senatore Consiglio Di Nino, c'era il Sig. Luigi Ricottilli presidente della Confederazione Abruzzese del Canada, c'erano rappresentanti del nostro Onorevole Maurizio Bevilacqua, Jay Nordinstrom e Carole Fournier, una festa dove c'era di tutto: prosciutto, porchetta... bocce e tante di quelle risate e di certo non sono mancati i canti. È stato un bel weekend passato insieme nella nostra capitale grazie al duro lavoro del Comitato Organizzatore presieduto dal Sig. Ezio Di Bacco.

 Arrivederci l'anno prossimo ad Hamilton e speriamo di essere gli stessi e più.

Over 400 people, ariving from throughout North America, have participated at the sixty-ninth  Interstate Picnic, held July 3rd and 4th, at Vincent Massey Park, organized by the Pratola Peligna Association of Ottawa. There was plenty of entertainment; games, song, and a rich buffet, toasted  with a glass of fine homemade wine, along with the joy of seeing old friends.  It made for a joyful picnic atmosphere to be among friends, who faithfully attend this annual event, and spend a memorable day reminiscing old times.  Thank - You Ottawa. See you in Hamilton in 2005.

This year the Pratolano Interstate Picnic was held at the Vincent Massey Park, in Ottawa, our federal capital city.

I set out  in the early afternoon of July 3rd, on my minivan with some friends, heading for Ottawa, where I first aarived in this county, in October of 1965. The weather couldn't have been better, and we arrived punctually, at the Church of Madonna of the Resurrection, where the parish priest,  father Antonio Pannunzi,  gave all a warm welcome, with astonishment he gazed at all the Pratolani greeting and embracing one another, conversing loudly and with hand gestures in front of the church, reminiscent of being in front of the Madonna della Libera church in Pratola Peligna. After a wonderful sermon by a good father to a family coming together, after a long time apart, we headed to the St. Anthony Club Hall for refreschments, and to continue the conversations started in front of the church. there was a slight dismay, by the unexpected number of guests, propably due to the fact that the organizers were not adequately informed as to the number of people who would be attending, however, the experienced cook's, were able to satisfy all the arrived gusts.

The following morning, July 4th, we all headed for the park. We feared some rain might spoil the day, but all went well in the shelter of the mature trees. Attendance was higher than expected, with many Pratolani attending from Ottawa, Toronto, London, Brantford, Hamilton, Hartford and Montreal, even our own senator Hon. Consiglio Di Nino, was in attendance, as  was Mr. Luigi Ricottilli, president of Abruzese Federation of Canada. Also present were the Hon. Maurizio Bevilacqua, Jay Nordistrom and Carole Fournier. All indulged on the plentiful prosciutto and porchetta, playing bocce, there were plenty of belly shaking laughter and  traditional songs. It was a wonderful weekend, spent together in our capital city, thanks to the labors of the members of the organizing committee, headed by Mr. Ezio Di Bacco.
