Due giornate da ricordare al maxi raduno dei pratolani residenti nell'America del Nord

Domenica 29 giugno scorso, oltre 500 pratolani provenienti da ogni parte del Continente nord-amenicano e anche da Pratola, hanno pacificamente invaso la città statunitense di Hartford, CT. per essere presenti alla 73esima edizione del famoso Interstate Picnic Pratolano. Chi scrive non può farne a meno di ripetere per una ennesima volta, "che quando la Comunità Pratolana residente in Hartford, ci si mette, le cose le fa sempre in grande stile".   Questa 73esima edizione è stata di particolare importanza per l'autorevole  presenza del¹attuale primo cittadino di Pratola Peligna, Dott. Antonio De Crescentiis e la sua famiglia. Per i lettori che non hanno potuto partecipare, sono lieto di riportare quì di seguito uno "short summary" delle fasi più salienti delle due giornate di festa.
  Per i pratolani provenienti da lontano la festa è iniziata sabato pomeriggio 28 giugno, presso la St. Lawrence O'Toole Church dove ha avuto luogo la celebrazione di una Santa Messa seguita  dalla esposizione della Statua della Madonna della Libera.

Dopo la funzione religiosa, gli organizzatori avevano per gli ospiti già predisposto in un ampio locale cittadino un ricevimento dove è stato servito un ricco pranzo. La serata è stata allietata dal cantante pratolano Tony De Dominicis Tony Allen e da musica D J, dove i più arzilli per digerire hanno affollato la pista da ballo.
  Al mattino di domenica 29 giugno il Comitato accoglieva i partecipanti al Wickham Park, (East Hartford) offrendo loro su una lunga tavolata, caffe caldo e una quantità di dolci nostrani, seguito, più tardi da un gustoso e abbondante buffett, in serata poi veniva servita una cena con vari tipi di
carne cotti al BQ (c¹steven perfin i fegatezz i le savicecc). Nel pomeriggio non è mancato il momento dei discorsi e  il consueto e reciproco scambio di targhe ricordo fra gli organizzatori e i dirigenti delle varie comunità pratolane, prendeva la parola il presidente della Pratolana Mutual Benefit Society di Hartford, signor Aldo Sciullo che dava il benvento ufficiale a tutti i partecipanti. Lo seguiva al microfono l¹intervento del Dott. Antonio De Crescentiis, Sindaco di Pratola Peligna (in T-shirt e shorts) che dopo la consegna di una targa ricordo da parte del Comune, esprimeva il suo saluto personale e quello dell¹Amministrazione Comunale e di tutti i cittadini di Pratola.

Come sempre, la parte più bella della giornata è nel leggere nei volti di tutti partecipanti tanta gioia e tanta emozione nel riabbracciare gli amici d'infanzia e fare nuove conoscenze, eppoi per i golosi non sono mancati gli assaggi della enogastronomia paesana: da Leandr puteve assaggè lu presutt fatt Oncase, Pietr Rosat uffreve a tutt quent nu piozze de pruvelone, cavè repurtate da l¹Etalie, sopr a tutt i taveloin c¹e stiven buttiglie de voine rusc i bianch fatte ncase, e ogni ben de Doijje, c'è stiven perfine le fiquere, le cerasce, l¹euue, ecc. ecc..  Da menzionare che nel pomeriggio e arrivato un forte acquaz-zone durato una trentina di minuti, ma l'inclemenza atmosferica non ha intaccato per nessun motivo lo spirito allegro dei pratolani, perchè riparatosi in un "pavillion" hanno iniziato a intonare a squarciagola canzoni nostrane:

O Vallata Peligna, Vola vola, ecc. (perfine lu Sindac cercheve d¹accumpagnè ma se vereve ch nen sapeve le parole de le canzeune).Infine, è arrivata l'annuncio da parte dei rappresentanti della città canadese di Brantford, che il prossimo anno ospiteranno la 74a edizione del picnic con due giornate di festa, il primo giorno avrà luogo il picnic, il secondo sarà dedicato alle festività del 50° anniversario dell' arrivo della Statua dell Madonna della Libera.
  Peccato arrivava la chiusura del raduno dei pratolani, ma ancora una volta ha dato a tutti l'opportunità di sentirsi più vicini e ai bambini e ai giovani l'occasione di conoscersi e giocare insieme. Nel 2009 arrivederci in Brantford, Canada.

Two day to remember at the maxi reunion of pratolani residing in North America

On Sunday June 29th, over 500 pratolani arriving form many parts of North America, and even from Pratola Peligna, peacefully invaded the american city of Hartford CT., to participate at the 73rd edition of the famous Pratolano Interstate Picnic. Those who write cannot emphasize that "when the Hartford Community hosts an event, they do things in style". This 73rd edition of the picnic, is of particular importance because of the authorative presence of the actual first citizen of Pratola Peligna, Dott. Antonio De Crescentiis and his family.

For our readers who were unable to attend, I am happy to report a brief summary of the two day event. For the pratolani arriving from out of town, the festivities began Saturday afternoon on June 28 at the St. Lawrence O'Toole Church, where a mass was held in honour of the Madonna Della Libera with the display of the statue. The religious function was followed by the reception of the guests at a local restaurant hall, where a rich dinner was served. The evening entertainment was provided by the pratolano singer Tony De Domenicis "Tony Allen" and DJ Tony Petrella, so that the spry in order to digest crowder the dance floor.                                     

 Sunday morning on June 29, the Committee  welcomed the participants at Wickham Park, (East Hartford), offering  a vast table of assorted home made cookies with coffee. Later  it was served a delicious and abundant buffet, and in the evening everyone was treated to a BBQ (in dialect : there were even sausages & liver sausages).

The afternoon prompted the time for speeches and the reciprocal exchange of remembrance plaques between the organizing committee and the representatives of the variuous pratolani communities in attendance. On the podium president of the Pratolana Mutual Benefit Society, Aldo Sciullo gave welcome to everyone, he was followed by Dott. Antonio De Crescentiis, mayor of Pratola peligna (in T-shirt & shorts), and presented a plaque to the Hardford community on behalf of the municipal administration and all of the citizens of Pratola Peligna.   As usual the best part of the day is to observe the faces of the participants filled with much joy and emotions in seeing old friends and make new acquaintances. For the gluttons there were many things to savour, from Leandro you could get a taste of home made prosciutto, Peter Rosati offered everyone a piece of provolone he had just brought back from Italy and every table was filled with home made wine bottles both red & white, there was every thing one could think of, figs, cherries, grapes, etc. etc. Even the afternoon thunderstorm could not dampen the spirit of the pratolani, because the took refuge under the pavilion and began singing folk songs like "O Vallata Peligna", "Vola Vola" etc. even the mayor tried to keep up, but at times he didn't know the words. Finally the representatives of the city of Brantford, CANADA announced that they would be the hosts of the 74th edition of the picnic two day event, where the picnic will be held on the first day and the second will be dedicated to thew festivities of the 50th anniversry of the arrival of the statue of the madonna della libera. Too bad the day had come to an end, but once more everyone had the opportunity to feel closer and for the young the opportunity to get to know one-another and play together.
