Oltre ottocento persone hanno partecipato nei giorni 29 e 30 giugno all'annuale Interstate Picnic Pratolano, edizione 2002, organizzato dalla Pratolana Mutual Benevolent Society e dalla Comunità Pratolana di Hartford Ct., USA. Ormai, lo sappiamo tutti, che quando i Paratolani residenti in Harford ci si mettono, le cose le fanno sempre in grande stile. L' appuntamento di quest' anno è stato di particolare importanza per la presenza di importanti nostri concittadini, arrivati da Pratola, fra i quali: Rocco Rossi, Assessore Provinciale, Giuseppe Basile e Nino Casasanta rispettivamente Presidente e Vice Presidente dei Festeggiamenti Maria SS. della Libera. Per chi non ha potuto partecipare, sono lieto di riportare qui di seguito, i particolari più salienti dello svolgimento del programma festivo.

 Sabato 29 giugno, alle ore 5: pm. Per i partecipanti venuti da lontano la festa iniziava nella sede della Pratolana Society Club dove agli oltre 250 pratolani presenti, veniva offerto un ricco e vario Buffet, di certo non è mancata la squisita pietanza di porchetta, abilmente preparata da Rinaldo Petrella (l’ affumecate), con l’ aiuto di Quintino Di Cioccio e Sergio Santilli. Ma la sorpresa della serata è stata nel gustare una tazzina di caffe espresso preparato da un esperto come Tonino Iacobucci, venuto da Pratola per partecipare al Picnic. Dopo cena arrivava il momento dei consueti saluti e di abbracci e le strette di mano, e di chiedeva degli amici assenti. Naturalmente, tutte le conversazioni erano in schietto dialetto Pratolano "Eh Pasqalìì è nu piaciere revererte, come ste Iojje stionch beune Ando stè mò teuue, Stionch allu Canada .

 Domenica 30 giugno, alle ore 10: am. si arriva al Wickham Park, località situata a East Hartford, che lentamente si riempiva di 800 Pratolani arrivati da ogni parte dell’ America del Nord, che subito iniziavano ad apparecchiare i tavoli con ogni ben di Dio. Sul volto di tutti si leggeva tanta gioia e tanta emozione nel riabbracciare parenti ed amici.

 Nel corso del picnic hanno avuto luogo giochi ricreativi e concorsi per i migliori vini, e per le pizzelle più saporite. Si arrivava al momento dei discorsi: prendeva la parola il presidente della Pratolana Society di Hartford, signor Bruno Tedeschi che dava il benvenuto ufficiale a tutti i partecipanti, seguiva il consueto e reciproco scambio di targhe ricordo fra i rappresentanti dei vari club e associazioni. Lo seguiva al microfono il signor Pino Basile; col suo intervento estendeva a tutti i Pratolani residenti all’ estero un caloroso invito ad essere tutti presenti ai festeggiamenti La Madonna della Libera nel Mondo che avranno luogo nel mese di agosto 2002 in Pratola . Infine veniva chiesta la parola al signor Rocco Rossi, Assessore Provinciale, esprimeva il suo saluto personale, quello dell’ Amministrazione Provinciale, della Regione Abruzzo e del Comune di Pratola, durante il lungo intervento ha anche colto l’ occasione di esprimersi favorevole sulla meravigliosa idea di organizzare in Pratola Peligna l’ Interstate Picnic Pratolano, nell’ anno 2004. Si tornava di nuovo agli abbracci, agli scambi di auguri e a ritrovarsi ancora insieme il prossimo anno in BRANTFORD, ONTARIO, CANADA. 

Insomma, due giornate splendide e indimenticabili, che ha dato a tutti l'opportunità di rincontrarsi e ai bambini e giovani l'occasione di conoscersi e giocare assieme! Al Direttivo della Pratolana Society, ai volontari e cuochi e in particolare a tutti i Pratolani di Hartford va il nostro plauso e i sinceri ringraziamenti.

Over 800 attend the Pratolano Interstate Picnic in Hartford

Over eight hundred people, have participated at the 2002 Pratolano Interstate Picnic, organized by the Pratolana Mutual Benevolent Society of Hartford, CT, USA held June 29th and 30th. By now, everyone knows that the Pratolani of Hartford put on a good show. This year's event was particularly important, due to the presence of prominent citizens of Pratola, arriving for the occasion, among them, Rocco Rossi (Provincial Assessor), Giuseppe Basile and Nino Casasanta, rispectively President and Vice President of Festeggiamenti Maria SS della Libera. To our friends who were not able to attend, I am happy to report the following highlights of the festivities.

Saturday June 29th, at 5:00 pm. For those arriving from out of town, the festivities began at the headquarters of the Pratolana Society Club, where over 250 arrived Pratolani guests, were treated to a rich buffet, including a sizeable portion of porchetta, prepared and served   by Rinaldo Petrella  (nicknamed "l'affummicante" or the smoke make), with the help of Quintino Di Cioccio and Sergio Santilli. But the surprise of the evening was, tasting that perfect cup of espresso coffee, masterfully prepared by the renown coffee expert, Tonino Iacobucci, recently arrived from Pratola, to take part at the picnic. After dinner, everyone was involved in the usual greetings of embracing, handshaking, and inquiring about friends who were not able to attend. Naturalli all the conversations were in the unsophisticated Pratolano dialect. "Eh Pasquale, it's a pleasure to see you again, how are you?, I'm fine, Where are you now?" , "I'm in Canada".

Sunday, June 30th, 10:00 am,  we arrive at Wickham Park, situated east of Hartford; slowly filled by the 800 Pratolani, arriving from every part of North America. The picnic tables were quickly  displaying a variety of fine foods. The joy of being present and embracing old friends was visible in everyone's face. People spent the day taking part in the various games, entering the best wine and pizzelle contests. It came time for the speeches, Mr. Bruno Tedeschi of the Pratolana Society of Hartford, welcomed everyone, and exchanged  plaques with the  representatives of the the various attending associations. Next on the microphone was Mr. Pino Basile, extending all of the Pratolani abroad, a heartfelt invitation to attend the festivities of La Madonna Della Libera nel mondo, to be held in Pratola Peligna, during the month of August 2002. Following, Mr. Rocco Rossi (provincial assessor), expressed his personal greetings as well as form the provincial administration of the region of Abruzzo, during his long speech, he expressed interest in organizing and holding in Pratola,  the Parolano Interstate Picnic in 2004.

 It was soon time to begin with the usual goodbyes, and to be able to meet again the following year in Brantford, Ontario, CANADA. Altogether, two splendid and unforgettable days, where everyone had the opportunity to meet old friends, and for the young, a chance to make new friends and play together.
