Il
giorno 30 giugno 1991, il Picnic Interstatale dei Pratolani d’
America e Canada è stato ospitato dal Pratola Peligna club di
Hamilton, Canada. Il Comitato di Hamilton, a mia modesta opinione,
ha organizzato detto Picnic veramente in stile e pertanto ha avuto
un gran successo.
All’
apertura si temeva che la giornata sarebbe stata fredda e piovosa.
Il cielo era nuvoloso, scuro e un vento che ti gelava. La maggior
parte dei presenti, primi arrivati al parco indossavano giacche
pullovers e beretti. Per riscaldarsi un pochino avemmo il piacere di
gustare caffe e biscotti in qunatità, brillantemente preparati
dalle donne pratolane di Hamilton. "THANK YOU VERY MUCH
LADIES"

Verso
le undici le nuvole si diradavano e il sole riscaldava tutti e il
vento si calmava. Lentamente il parco si riempiva di pratolani
venuti da tutte le parti del Nord Amarica. Era un piacere osservare
lo spettacolo e vedere amici abbracciarsi con affetto e spesso anche
con una certa emozione. Gruppi si formavano scambiandosi saluti,
chiedevano notizie degli assenti, per poi separarsi e formare altri
gruppi, sempre con la stessa gioia di rivedersi. La giornata fù
allietata da un gruppo musicale con canzoni italiane. Il pomeriggio
fù allietato da musica danzante, dando cosi agio ai presenti di
eseguirsi in danze e godersi la giornata.
Ci
fù anche la gara di morra. A sera ognuno ripartiva soddisfatto di
aver passato una giornata fra amici e paesani e augurandosi a
vicenda di rivedersi ad Ottawa capitale del Canada l’ anno
prossimo. Congratulazioni al Comitato Direttivo di Hamilton, per
aver cosi destramente organizzato il tradizionale Picnic dei
Pratolani.

The
Interstate Pratolano Picnic for the year 1991 was
hosted by the Pratola Peligna Club of Hamilton, Ontario
CANADA on June 30th. The Hamilton committee in my modest
opinion, has organized the said picnic with style, and has had
much success. At the opening, the weather seemed to be for a
cold and rainy day, the skies were overcast and the
steady wind was chilling. The first of the participating guests to arrive at the park were wearing their coats and
hats. The coffee and biscuits brilliantly prepared by the
Hamilton Partolani women helped the guests to keep warm.

Around eleven in the morning the skies began to clear, the
wind diminished and the sunshine began to warm the day and the
people. Slowly the park began to fill up with many pratolani
arriving from all parts of North America. It was a
pleasure to observe the spectacle, and to see friends embrace
with affection, and, often with a certain emotion. Groups began
to form, exchanging greetings and asking about those who
were not able to attend, then separate again in other
groups, always with the same joy to see each other once more.
In the background the sound of music and Italian songs rejoiced the spirit.
Later in the afternoon couples enjoyed themselves dancing to
the the lively music.

There
was even the MORRA competition. As the evening drew to a
close, people began their return trip home, once more satisfied
in having spent another
memorable day
among friends and paesani, and looking forward to reunite once
more the following year, in Ottawa, Canada's capital city. Congratulations to the Hamilton
Committee for their fine job in organizing this
traditional Picnic Pratolano.
