Grande successo alla 74ma edizione dell'Interstate Picnic Pratolano

Il tradizionale Picnic annuale dei pratolani residenti nell'America del Nord alla sua settantaquattresima edizione ha avuto luogo sabato 4 luglio, al Mohawk Park di Brantford, Ontario, Canada. I seicento ospiti (numero fornito dagli organizzatori) sono arrivati da tutte le parti dell'Ontario, dal Quebec, dalla Nuova Scozia, dagli Stati Uniti d'America e anche dall'Italia.  

All'arrivo all'accogliente "park" situato alla periferia di Brantford, si è subito notato che i partecipanti prima di iniziare ad apparecchiare i lunghi "picnic tables" con ogni ben di Dio, li abbiamo visti sorridere, abbracciarsi e anche piangere di gioia per ritrovarsi ancora una volta tutti insieme   Al mattino il comitato alla presenza del sindaco di Brantford accoglieva gli ospiti, dando via alle festività, offrendo caffè caldo e una varietà di dolci paesani. Nel pomeriggio, come negli scorsi anni non sono mancati i famosi canti folcloristici nostrani, Vola, vola..., Pratola bella..., Pizzechemme... ecc. ecc., che accompagnati da

 fisarmonica e chitarra hanno allietato i partecipanti per tutta la giornata. Prima della chiusura si arrivava al momemto dei discorsi, prendeva la parola il chairman del picnic Mario Petrella, presidente del club pratolano di Brantford, che ringraziava tutti i partecipanti, poi seguiva il consueto e reciproco scambio di targhe ricordo tra i rappresentanti dei vari clubs e associazioni, infine veniva annunciato che il prossimo anno la 75ma edizione dell'Interstate Picnic Pratolano sarà ospitata dall'Associazione Pratolana di Ottawa, capeggiata dal signor Rocco Petrella. Insomma, è stata una memorabile giornata intensa e festosa, trascorsa in bella compagnia con un clima ideale all'ombra degli alberi secolari, circondati dai bei colori della natura, ma più di ogni cosa ha dato a tutti l'opportunità di rincontrarsi e ai piccini e giovani l'occasione di conoscersi e stare per un'intera giornata assieme.Agli organizzatori, ai volontari, ai bravi cuochi e in particolare a tutti pratolani residenti nella città di Brantford va il plauso e i sinceri ringraziamenti della direzione del Corriere Peligno/Gente Italica.Infine colgo l'occasione per salutare tutti i compaesani e... non, venuti da tutto il continente nord-americano e un arrivederci a tutti il prossimo anno in OTTAWA, "Capitale del Canada".   (s.cas)

Great success for the 74th annual Pratolano Interstate Picnic

The traditional annual Pratolani picnic took place on Saturday, July 4th, 2009 at Mohawk Park in Brantford, Ontario, Canada. The 600 guests (as reported by the organizing committee) arrived from throughout southern Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, from the United States of America and even from Italy. Upon arriving to a welcoming park located on the outskirts of Brantford, it was noticeable that before starting to prepare one's picnic table with it was more importatnt to greet, embrace and smile at one another even to the point of shedding a joyful tear in being able to see each other once again.   In the morning the organizing committee together with the mayor of Brantford, welcomed the arriving guests and officially started the celebrations offering hot coffee and a variety of traditional home made cookies.

 As usual, in the afternoon people gathered to sing those famous folklore songs such as Vola, vola...., Pratola bella...., Pizzechemme..., etc. etc., which accompanied by accordion and guitar delighted the guests all afternoon. As closing time approached, it was time for the formal speeches, Mario Petrella - chairman of the club Pratolano of Brantford, took the microphone to thank all the participating guests, following was the reciprocal exchange of remembrance plaques among the representatives of the attending clubs and organizations and the announcement that next year's 75th edition of the picnic would be hosted by the Pratolana Association of Ottawa, with Rocco Petrella at the helm.

In brief it was a most memorable day spent in good company under the shade of mature trees and the colours of nature, giving us the opportunity to see each other once again but most of all it gave youth the opportunity to make acquaintance and spend the day together. The directors if Corriere Peligno  / Gente Italica would like congratulat eand offer their sincere thanks to the picnic organizing committee, the wonderful cooks, all of the volunteers and all of the Brantford Pratolana community. I also take the opportunity to offer greetings to the Pratolani and non-Pratolani who came from throughout the North American continent, hope to see you all again next year in OTTAWA, capital city of Canada.
